"As Iron Sharpens Iron" Proverbs 27:17

How often should you workout?

Adam, January 29, 2025January 29, 2025

How often do you work out? How often do you go to the gym? What is the right answer? Is their a right answer? These are questions that seem to come up for all of us from time to time, hell a lot of times these questions are thrown at us by others, specifically those folks who don’t prioritize health and fitness as high on their list. So I thought I might share the “official recommendation” from the experts, then my opinion. (Because I know everyone reading this wants my opinion. LOL).

Men’s Health recommends that you workout 3 – 5 days a week, That is a pretty good recommendation. But according to most Doctors at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week. That’s not even close. (Which really makes me wonder if these doctors actually workout.)

Now for my opinion…. I personally workout 6 days a week with Sunday being a “rest day”. You may think well that’s a lot, but really it’s not. I split my days into 4 upper body days and 2 lower body days.

  • Monday: Chest & Triceps, Abs
  • Tuesday: Back, Shoulders, Biceps
  • Wednesday: Leg Day
  • Thursday: Chest, Back, Triceps, Abs
  • Friday: Biceps, Shoulders, Cardio
  • Saturday: Leg Day

Is this split for everyone, I would say no, but it works for me. Do I recommend this split or similar, yes! At the end of the day, do what works for you. Everyone’s main goal should be to get out there and be active. If weights are your thing, lift weights. If cardio is your thing, do it. Just don’t sit at home like a bump on a log!
